Blaydon Amateur Swimming Club is a fun, friendly, non-competitive club, based at Blaydon Leisure Centre. We are for those swimmers looking to continue to develop and enjoy their swimming, but without the demands and expectations of clubs working towards competition.
Sessions take place on Monday evenings.
Session 1 – usually for primary aged children. This includes a masters lane for confident adult swimmers. | 19:00 – 20:00 |
Session 2 – usually for secondary aged children. | 20:00 – 21:00 |
If your child is interested in joining, please get in touch with secretary@blaydonasc.co.uk
Expectations for new members:
We normally recommend children joining us to have completed swimming lessons to at least Stage 7 and entry is subject to a trial session to give the children a taste and where our coaches can assess their ability.
Swimmers will need to be confident to swim 25m lengths, and to do so repeatedly as they run through various activities and games. Swimmers should be able to swim front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke. Some sessions will involve work on butterfly.
What sessions look like:
Included in membership fees is the cost of hiring out the full pool for our exclusive use. We have six lanes in each session with generally one coach to two lanes. Lanes cover a range of abilities so that swimmers can progress and so that similar ability swimmers can be grouped together.
We complete a range of drills across all strokes to improve technique and develop performance, along with skills development such as building confidence with tumble turns.
We aren’t a competitive club, so don’t enter galas, but as part of our club development, we are looking to introduce time trial sessions to support swimmers to monitor their own progress.
Masters swimmers:
In our first session we offer a lane for Masters swimmers. These are adult aged swimmers with a good swimming background.
Current fees:
As of February 2024, club subscriptions are £22 every month, and members will also require swim England membership at £25 a year or part year. These fees cover the cost of pool hire, coaches, insurance, costs for the club’s membership and club development.
